Operation Rimini: High-visibility policing in Stockport town centre

Officers conducted a targeted day of visibility and engagement in Stockport town centre yesterday (Tuesday 28 April) as part of Operation Rimini.

The operation focuses on high visibility patrols, active detection, and partnership working to address issues that matter most to residents, businesses and visitors.

During the day:

Four arrests were made for offences including shoplifting, recall to prison, possession of Class B drugs and failure to provide details following a vehicle stop.

One vehicle was seized after officers discovered it was displaying false plates, had no insurance, an MOT that expired three years ago and defective tyres.

A high-risk missing child was located at Stockport Interchange and safely returned to his family following swift multi team coordination.

Officers carried out seven stop and searches.

Five vehicles were stopped, resulting in two traffic offence reports being issued for driving related matters.

Throughout the day, officers carried out targeted patrols, intelligence led stop checks, spoke with members of the public and worked alongside retail partners to prevent crime and provide reassurance.

Inspector Jason Holmwood said: “The results of the day demonstrate the impact of focussed, intelligence-led policing and high visibility patrols across Stockport.

“Responding to community concerns, gathering intelligence and working with partnership with others allows us to disrupt serious criminality, anti-social behaviour and protect vulnerable residents, making Stockport a safer place for people to live, work in and visit.

“Further activity is planned as part of ongoing efforts to ensure Stockport remains a safe place to live, work and visit.

“We will continue gathering intelligence and working closely with the community to detect and disrupt criminal activity, deter anti-social behaviour and protect vulnerable members of the community.”

Now in its third year, Operation Rimini brings together officers from across the borough, including bike, motorcycle and mounted units, alongside partners, volunteers and businesses.

The operation continues to demonstrate the value of proactive policing and strong community partnerships in reducing offending and protecting vulnerable people.
